City Council hires contractor for new police station, other buildings | The Calhoun Times

The Calhoun City Council unanimously approved the recommendation of architect Gregg Sims to hire Felker Construction Co. Inc., with a low bid of $4.8 million, to build the new police station, vehicle service building and recreation parks maintenance building at McDaniel Station Road and Recreation Drive.

City Manager Paul Worley said 11 bids from across the state were received for the 2018 Special Purpose, Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) project, and that Felker not only had the lowest bid but also the confidence of the architect.

The project includes a 13,754-square-feet police station, a 5,000-square-feet vehicle service building and a 4,000-square-feet maintenance building for the parks department. Worley said the new buildings will allow the police department to be housed under the same roof for the first time in a long time, will create a dedicated location for working and cleaning city vehicles, will included a dedicated kennel and related

Mighty Buildings 3D-Printed Homes Points To The Future Of Sustainable Housing

There is a problem with housing in this country. From decades of bad public housing policy to retrofitting the suburbs for sustainability to near consistent affordable housing shortages, we have to start looking at more innovative housing solutions. Like container homes, 3D printed homes seek to offer a generally affordable alternative to a small, sustainable home created in a non-traditional manner. 3D-printed homes are not a new concept but have mostly been stuck in the conceptual phase until recently.

Cal Fire Operations Chief Mark Bruton said during his Saturday night briefing that air support was playing a key role on the northern edge of the blaze burning in steep terrain toward Lake County.

“It’s really steep, heavy terrain, we have some control lines in there but we have a bit of a lack of resources to really work in that kind of terrain,” he said. “We used aircraft to really pound it today. We dropped a lot of retardant to help slow the advance of the fire.”

Meanwhile, weather forecasters were keeping on an eye on
