Is the Apple Face Mask For Sale?

Apple has developed its own face mask for its employees and an unboxing YouTube channel has provided a first-look. But Apple fans may be disappointed as this product may not be found in-store alongside Air Pods and Apple Watches.

The face mask was designed by the Engineering and Industrial Design teams, who normally spend their time designing the iPhones and iPads.

Each box contains five individually sealed masks in classically Apple packaging printed with instructions. The mask is made up of three layers to filter incoming and outgoing particles, with adjustable strings to fit around the years, plus the option to attach the strings at the back of the head for a more secure fit.

Each mask has a covering for the nose and chin, similar to a fold-flat mask, and in the Unbox Therapy video, George Hilsenteger, the man testing the mask, said that it is much more structured than a regular surgical face mask.

Hilsenteger also said: “It feels very secure. I definitely feel more sealed off than a standard surgical mask.”

The mask can also be washed and reused up to five times and can be worn for eight hours at a time.

As well as the Apple mask, Apple is also disturbing an FDA-cleared transparent surgical mask, the ClearMask, that will allow deaf or hard of hearing people to lip-read and better understand employees.

Is the Apple Face Mask for Sale?

Apple developed the face mask for its corporate and retail employees to use so it is unlikely it will become available for the general public to purchase.

Therefore, the rest of us may have to settle for less trendy options. However, while many face masks are not as slick as the new Apple design, wearing a face-covering is critical in slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has called on Americans to wear a face mask or covering, with CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield saying “We are not defenseless against COVID-19.

“Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus—particularly when used universally within a community setting. All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.”
