For the second time in two years, this historic Wichita restaurant is closed, for sale

Jack’s North Hi Carryout is closed… again.

And it’s back on the market… again.

The most recent owner of the little burger restaurant that’s operated across from North High School since 1951 says that he’s had to shut it down. Jack’s has been closed since late September.

Armin Ghoddoussi, who’s owned the restaurant at 603 W. 13th St. for nearly two years, says there are a couple of reasons for the decision, and perhaps not surprisingly, COVID-19 is one of them.

Business has taken a hit since the pandemic started, he said. A big part of his customer base — North High students — have been attending classes online instead of at school across the street.

Plus his mother, Akhtar Gharagozolo, who’d been running the restaurant for him, is having trouble keeping up.

“The reasons are mostly my mother having a hard time managing it and also getting a bit

‘Johnny A’ stepping down: Serenity Homes celebrates 25 years | Local News

Being a part of Serenity Homes has meant “my life,” said the young man. “Johnny has helped me get back on my feet. He gave me a job (and) self-confidence.”

Today, “I’m feeling excellent,” said Anthony. “I take it day by day and go by faith, not by fear.”

Looking at what Apodaca has built over the past 25 years is inspirational, said Anthony. “I know that if he can do it, I can do it,” he said.

Butch T., another Serenity Homes resident, said that from living in the Napa community his whole life, he knew of Apodaca and the program. So when Butch admitted his own drinking had become a problem, Johnny “graciously provided a safe place for me to be.”

He’s been at Serenity Homes since May 14, said Butch. “Life has definitely taken a turn for the better,” he said. He’s employed and is also now

Four teens, between 13 and 14 years old, hurt after crashing Porsche into pole, Toronto police say

Four teens, between the ages of 13 and 14, were injured near Toronto’s Little Portugal neighbourhood after a Porsche they were joyriding in struck a pole and split in half.

The crash happened in the Lansdowne Avenue and College Street area around 3 a.m. Wednesday, Toronto police said.

Two of them were injured and remained at the scene, police said. The other two fled on foot but were soon found. All were taken to the hospital.

“None of the injuries were considered life-threatening. They were considered life-altering,” Const. David Hopkinson told the Star.

The Porsche was travelling north on Lansdowne at “a high rate of speed” when it lost control trying to turn onto College, Const. Michelle Flannery.

The vehicle struck a pole in the intersection and was “cut into two pieces,” Flannery said.

Traffic Services Sgt. Jason Kraft told the Star that there were three boys and one girl

Holliday Haven goes up for sale for the second time in 170 years | Living

ABERDEEN • Since it was built in 1850, Holliday Haven has only been home to two families: the Hollidays, who built it; their descendants; and the Seymers.

Because upkeep on the 5,800-square-foot Greek Revival mansion and its five acres of property is a challenge, the Seymers are ready to downsize and pass it onto the next family.

“We’ve reached that age when we can’t keep it like we want to,” said Emily Seymer.

Her husband, Tom Seymer, purchased the historic home in July 1993 and moved in a few months later after making a few improvements to the home.

“We’ve enjoyed living here and we’re the first family outside of the descendants who have lived here. No one has ever moved out,” he said.

He bought the home from Adeliann Eastham of Starkville, who inherited it after Carolyn Sauter passed away in 1993. Leading up to her death, five generations

Japan’s Land Prices Drop for First Time in Three Years as Coronavirus Hurts Demand | Investing News

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese land prices have fallen for the first time in three years, marking an average decline of 0.6% nationwide after the coronavirus pandemic weakened demand, a government survey found.

Prior to the pandemic, land prices had been making a steady recovery with demand for hotels and other commercial properties particularly strong due to robust tourism and ahead of the now delayed Tokyo Olympics. An increase in demand for offices from companies had also helped.

But commercial land prices slipped 0.3% in the year to July 1, their first decline in five years, the land ministry’s annual survey found.

“Land prices related to hotels and shops showed relatively big changes but price changes for many other types of areas were smaller,” a land ministry official said.

Residential land prices, which have been declining since 1992 in the wake of the bursting of Japan’s bubble economy, accelerated their pace
