The Cartwrights rode horses across television sets against a backdrop of pine trees and picturesque mountains on the Ponderosa Ranch from 1959 to 1973. And while “Bonanza” was fictional, the ranch was not.

Vintage, charming Lake Tahoe CA home for sale

A Lake Tahoe home with hidden stone pathways, a lighthouse and 220 feet of water frontage has hit the market for $7.75 million.

“It really is a magical storybook setting that one could never be duplicated under today’s development guidelines,” said Craig Miller, co-listing agent with Katherina Haug of Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty.

The classic “old Tahoe” cabin at Boulder Point on Lake Tahoe’s west shore was built in the 1930s and updated in 2000 to modern standards.

“This estate retains the charm and character of its early 1930s heritage,” according to a fact sheet on the home.

Owned by a Bay area family as their vacation home for the past 25 years, the property is located in an area with “very little turnover,” Miller said. Adjacent properties have remained under the same family ownership since the area was subdivided in the early 1930s, he added.
