Beat the Crowds! A Sneak Peek at 9 Amazon Prime Day Deals You Can Buy for Your Home Right Now

Amazon’ s biggest sale of the year is nearly here! The company’s popular Prime Day usually falls in July, but due to supply chain issues related to the coronavirus, this year the annual shopping marathon is on Oct. 13 and 14.

Prime Day is a two-day event started in 2015 by the megasite to persuade those of us who aren’t already Prime members to sign up for the benefit, says Kristin McGrath, editor and shopping expert at BlackFriday.com.

And since many homeowners and their children are still working and attending school remotely, Prime Day is an excellent opportunity to finally pick up what’s missing around the house, from electronics and pantry supplies to early holiday presents.

Some of these deals have already dropped early to whet shoppers’ appetites. And since many of the best ones might sell out fast, don’t leave items lingering in your cart for too long.

“It’s the worst when you check your online cart only to find it empty and have to start all over again,” says Ana Cummings of the eponymous design firm.

You could also try the alert feature to notify you when items go on sale, so “you can pounce on a good price and not be distracted as lightning deals come and go,” adds McGrath.

If you’re eager to beat the crowds that will descend on Oct. 13, here’s a sneak peek at some Prime Day deals you can buy for your home right now.

1. Blink Mini camera

Keep an eye on your pet with this nifty little camera.

Amazon

There’s no need to shout to the second floor when you announce dinner. Instead, set up a Blink Mini camera ($25) with two-way audio and you’ll be in touch with your tween 24/7. And with the price reduced by a third, you can pick up a second one to monitor whether your dog is snoozing on your white bedspread.

2. Kindle paperwhite

Load up on reading material for the colder months to come.

Amazon

“Some of the best deals offered on Prime Day are for Amazon-branded products, such as the Alexa Dot and their Kindles,” says Andrea Woroch, a consumer finance expert.

Want a way to catch up on your reading? The latest Kindle paperwhite ($120) is lighter and thinner than ever, plus it’s waterproof for those times when you want to dive into a novel while splashing in the tub.

3. Smart HD TV

Cue up your favorite shows with Alexa on the remote.

Amazon

Need more binge-watching options on a new 32-inch screen? The smart HD TV Fire edition lets you play games and music, and stream thousands of movies and TV shows—and it’s an excellent deal since it saves you $60 off the regular price of $120.

4. Cleaning supplies

Get multiple bottles—winter is coming (and so are the germs).

Amazon

With the pandemic still going strong, it’s understandable that we’re all still cleaning and disinfecting up a storm. So it’s a good thing that Amazon’s own brand of cleaning supplies are all 20% off.

You can find bargains on sprays, mops, rubber gloves, and this all-purpose cleaning solution—which is safe to use on tile, glass, and stainless steel. Bonus: The cleaner-and-pod kit ($12.50) comes with a reusable bottle.

5. Toilet paper

Wipe with pride: This paper is made from sustainably managed forests.

Amazon

Remember the toilet paper shortages last spring? With a second wave of the coronavirus possibly heading our way, now is not the time to get caught short on this critical household supply. Be sure you have enough—and save a bundle on this megapack of 24 rolls ($22).

6. Granola bars

No more hangry! Lay in enough snacks to last all fall.

Amazon

If shlepping to the grocery store during a pandemic is not a task you relish, it’s high time to start filling your pantry the Amazon way.

“Amazon is offering discounts on Amazon Fresh orders and the same price cuts at Whole Foods for Prime members,” says McGrath.

You’ll save 20% off a whole host of snacks and drinks on Prime Day, including this giant box of 58 granola bars ($13) for quick snacking between earth science and algebra at your kitchen table.

7. Dog food

Amazon’s own pet brand is grain-free and high in protein.

Amazon

Have a dog to lift your spirits while stuck at home? The entire line of Amazon’s Wag dog food ($38) is 40% off, which means you can stock up on puppy chow to see you through the winter, and say buh-bye to lugging heavy bags from the grocery store.

8. Diapers

Swaddle your tot with fragrance-free, hypoallergenic nappies.

Amazon

When you have a little one at home, is there such a thing as too many diapers? These four-packs of 25 diapers each ($40 for 100 diapers) from Amazon’s Mama Bear brand are 20% off.

9. Echo Auto

Make calls, play tunes, and hear the news—all hands-free.

Amazon

Smart speakers aren’t just for homes; they can now extend to your car, too. And right now, you can save $30 on the Echo Auto ($20), which lets you invite Alexa into your SUV so she can speak through your speakers—while leaving your hands on the steering wheel where they should be.
